Glitter comes to ELLA Book Club!

Posted under Handmade No Comments

Author Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez is one of my writing heroes. I remember hearing an interview with her on CNN talking about the sale of The Dirty Girls Social Club, her debut novel. I immediately went out and bought and soaked up every word. Down the road, she came to Phoenix for a book signing, and then later on as a speaker at the Hispanic Women’s Conference.

I remember telling her “I’m writing a novel!” and then thinking to myself, “Kathy, you are a dork, everyone probably tells her that!” Alisa has never made me feel like a dork. She’s always encouraged me to keep going and to never give up. Alisa paved the way for so many of contemporary Latina authors!

Anyway, now you know why I’m so thrilled that she chose my book as this month’s selection of her new ELLA (English Language Latina Authors) Book Club! I encourage all of you to sign up to be a member!

Here is an ultra sweet video she made for GLITTER!

P.S. About me being in the characters, I must admit, yes, there is a bit of me in each one of them, just exaggerated to make the storylines juicier! :-)

Whiff of Joy Challenge #70

Posted under Handmade No Comments
Hi Everyone, I hope your week is going well so far. This week at WOJ there is a fabulous sketch by my lovely DT buddy Jane.

I have to admit that things did not go according to plan with my card…..I made a bit of a mess with the arch shape in the sketch and so I decided to hide it with some stamped flowers to match in with the BG Wisteria’ papers and the photograph is pretty dire too…the cardstock looks almost black….I promise that it is purple IRL! :)

The Whiff of Joy stamps I have used are ‘Melinda with Bouquet’ from the Guardian Angels Collection and the stamped Lilacs/Wisteria and the sentiment are from the February Stamp Kit ‘Birdie Love’. I have coloured all of the stamped images with Copics and I added some Shimmerz- Blingz ‘Pixie Dust’ to Melinda’s Wings and the Wisteria flowers. I really love these Shimmerz paint they give lots of shimmer & sparkle to projects and as you apply them with a brush you can be more precise…the times I have squeezed blocked stickles tube too hard only to end up with a big gloopy mess! LOL

The Border punch is ‘Floral Vine’ by Martha Stewart and the pearls are from Bunny Zoe’s Crafts.

Card Recipe
Stamps:
‘Melinda with Bouquet’ Sentiment & Wisteria/Lilac stamps are from the ‘Birdie Love’ stamp kit… all from Whiff of Joy Stamps.
Colouring Medium: ‘Tuxedo Black’ ink by Memento, Copic Sketch Markers and Shimmerz Blingz in
‘Pixie Dust’ from Quixotic Paperie.
Card:
ColorCore cardstock from Create4Fun.
Papers: All from the Basic Grey
‘Wisteria’ pad from Bunny Zoe’s Crafts.
Spellbinders: Nestabilities
‘Oval’ & ‘Scalloped Oval’ from Create4Fun.
Punch: Martha Stewart
‘Floral Vine’ border punch from Create4Fun.
Misc:
Pearls from Bunny Zoe’s Crafts and the ribbon is from my stash.

I am hopefully having an evening to myself…after a lot of nagging they are going to give Jack another chance in respite…so fingers crossed and lets hope he behaves himself! :)
Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your day!
Hugs

Whiff of Joy Challenge – Jane’s sketch

Posted under Handmade No Comments

We had some fabulous Coffee and Cream entries last week, pop across to the Whiff of Joy Challenge blog to see which cards made it to the top 3.

This week Jane has done a sketch for us, I’m not sure that I have interpreted it properly but this is as good as it gets.

woj-willow-birdie
I have used Willow and a sentiment from the Birdie Love Stamp kit from Whiff of Joy.  The papers are MME Wild Asparagus. I have coloured the image with Copics.

CCT – Lucky Green!

Posted under Handmade No Comments
Hi Everyone! I have managed to squeeze another challenge in between my DT cards. I have made this card for this weeks Cute Card Thursday Challenge ~ Lucky Green!

The images ‘Tilda with Clover’ and ‘Horseshoe & Clover’ are both from last years fortune collection by Magnolia. I stamped Tilda first and then masked her so I could stamp the horseshoe background. I have coloured the image with Copics and distressed the edges with inks. The gorgeous sparkly paper is by Best Creations. The ‘Cherry Blossom’ flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts…I have airbrushed them to match with Copics…and the clover punch is by Martha Stewart.

Thanks for Visiting

30 Days of Glitter: Artisan Perfume Oils!

Posted under Handmade No Comments

This is an unexpected Glitter post!

Elli, a reader, wrote me after she finished the novel and asked for my address so she could send a little sumthang-sumthang. I love surprises! Her package arrived yesterday and the biggest smile spread across my face when I opened it.

She created all-natural perfume oils inspired by Estrella, Chloe and Ofie (the characters in my book)! She came up with her own interpretation of the scents, based on the ladies’ lives and personalities. I love these one-of-a-kind treasures so much and plan to wear them whenever I feel the spirit of one of the craftistas.

Here are Elli’s inspirations for the scents she created (so creative!):

ESTRELLA (Star): Sparkling pink sugar crystals, dusky violet and sweet pea sprays and a Day of the Dead ofrenda covered in rose pedals.

OFELIA: Grainy vanilla lattes and a garden fresh bunch of mixed flowers, topped with a bit of the fastest hook in the land looping warm wool.

CHLOE: No-nonsense, ambitious woods and spices, sparkled up with a citrusy, glittery, mandarin kick. Smells even better when warmed by hot television lights.

Magnolia card

Posted under Handmade No Comments

Here’s a card that never made the last Magnolia ink magazine.  The theme I had to follow was princess with a fairy castle to be featured.  It was a bit difficult seeing as I had no Magnolia princess stamps so used the little bridesmaid from the yet to be released Wedding Collection.

bev-princess-2
I used a Sizzix castle die (kindly loaned to me by my fab mate Jacqui xxx) and built up a few layers and added some glitter card for the roof.  The paper is Kaiser, the cherry blossoms from Wild Orchid crafts.  You can see the layers of the castle better in the picture below
